BAIGNADE INTERDITE

Baignade Interdite is a surrealist erotic photography series shot entirely in my bathtub in North London. It’s an act of visual rebellion, and a love letter to my younger self, who didn’t yet know that being different was a good thing.

As a queer, neurodivergent cis-woman, I fit society’s definition of femininity by default. Everything I do is read as feminine, whether I intend it or not, and that label has always felt like a costume I never chose. This series is how I strip it off and throw it in the bin.

Within the deliberately intimate confines of my bathtub, I created surrealist scenes where water, objects and bodies are pulled out of their expected contexts. The domestic becomes theatrical, the familiar becomes strange, and “feminine” becomes a question rather than an answer.

I worked exclusively with people who exist outside, between or in defiance of the norm I inhabit so effortlessly. Each shoot was a collaboration built on trust, because these are their bodies, not mine. Their vulnerability and bravery remind me that fitting the mould was never the interesting option.

Made for physical exhibition rather than social media feeds, these images are free from censorship. We show what we choose to show. The body here is not decorative, aspirational or compliant. It is a site of play, refusal and reclamation. You can see it, but it’s not yours to take.

Exhibition
Baignade Interdite was brought to life in my hometown of Binche, at La Fabrique de Vêtements, a former textile factory, as part of Vaginalement Sociable, Sang et Chair Confondus from Oct 9 to Oct 18 2026. My great-grandparents were coal miners in the Borinage and Italian factory workers in Charleroi, and the freedom I have to make art comes from them. Bringing a piece of my life in London back home is both a tribute and a provocation.

I’m hoping to bring the exhibition to London in 2027, if I secure the funding.
