On leaving something for the imagination.
The first Baignade Interdite shoot, with Chanelle De Mai, was nothing short of inspirational. We had soaked up Lee Miller’s surrealist work at Tate Britain the day before, and it shows. Chanelle lies in the bath with a mirror covering her vulva. We know it’s what you most want to see. We’d like to leave something for the imagination, but this mirror only tells the truth, and when you look closer you’ll only see your own true nature. Don’t look too close or you might drown.
We played with shapes and lines, and Chanelle serves herself on a silver platter. But you get the real Chanelle here, not the one polished for the stage. That one is a different Chanelle.
