She's Thunderstorms | Baignade Interdite Limited Edition Print
Self-portrait, on harnessing the power within me.
My second self-portrait for the series. The first was a deep dive into memory and grief. This one is a wake-up call, a warning that I’m a lot more powerful than I think, and that storms can be destructive. It’s about accepting my anger, getting to know whoever I am now and harnessing that power. An Arctic Monkeys song made me think I could do a storm in the bathroom, and it turns out it’s possible.
How do you do a rain shoot indoors when you’ve never done one? Lots of research and conversations with other photographers, then trial and error. Rain shoots are backlit, which isn’t possible in my bathroom, with the bathtub against the wall and the small matter of water conducting electricity. So Deedee and I covered the window with emergency blankets, bounced a light off it from the doorway, added some small lights and a blue LED stick, and filled the room with smoke. The lightning was added in Photoshop. Anyone who says this was AI will get kicked in the shin.
Part of Baignade Interdite, a surrealist photography series shot entirely in a bathtub in North London by Pauline Di Silvestro.
Fine art A3 uncensored print. Limited edition of 5 copies only. £75.
Free UK shipping. EU shipping £10.
