On being sick of performing for the male gaze and throwing it all out with the bath water.
I know Popina Cherry for her fantastic make-up skills and her playfulness, and this shoot was a mix of both. Tired of sitting pretty, she got properly messy and ended up with lipstick on her teeth. She’s sick of getting dolled up only to be harassed, or ignored when she doesn’t wear make-up. Sick of being too much, or not enough. So she ate it all, and she’s throwing the rest out with the bath water.
I stretched her eyes and mouth in post-production for some extra drama, à la Black Hole Sun (if you’re over 30, you’ll remember the video).
